Inspiration of form

These homes and studios all fall under
the category of FarmhouseMod in my mind.
I am attempting to design a home that will fit right
in with these beauties:

Hopefully, if we play the
Sesame Street game of "Three of these things belong
together, one of these things just isn't the same..,"
you won't be picking the home I design.
So, from these inspirational photos I know that
a. I like a 12/12 roof pitch
b. I like a rectangular house "footprint"
c. My siding might be white

And in the spirit of Bob the Builder and his pal Lofty,
Can we build it?
Ummm... I think so.

Rockin' that apple pie

I have dreamed of designing a house for a long time. The first house design I drew as a young girl included a trampoline room with padded walls. With twenty years of time, my tastes have evolved, but what hasn't changed is the idea of designing a house around kids, specifically my own 4.
As I pondered how to design a house for our family, I began to realize that I am not designing just a house, I am designing a home. The word home carries so much more than the word house, and that is how this DWELL girl came to realize that I'm not a true modernist at heart. Yes, you heard me right! I am discovering that I'd like a slice of apple pie with that Eames rocker. So, on that note, I am beginning a blog to catalog all of my favorite things about home design. I'm leaving the house at the door.
